Happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there!
I went and saw Man of Steel yesterday, wow what a great movie. After seeing the movie, it hit me, what a great examples of fatherhood from both Superman’s birth and earthly father. I won’t spoil the movie experience for you, but what I will tell you is that the movie has probably the best scene of true fatherhood I’ve ever seen.
The other thing that I thought about was the power and draw of superhero films. What is it about super hero films that gets me all jacked up? I love the character values of super heroes and the demonstrative experience that these films provide. I think most men secretly wish they could have super hero powers. Here’s the secret, we do! We can exhibit those same qualities through daily life. I used to watch my dad go to work day in and out while suffering from Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma and barely being able to function. I watched him do what he had to do when no one else could or would. I also watched him care for my mom while she was sick and dieing, while he was also trying to fight osteosarcoma (bone cancer). Without very little regard for himself, he cared for others. This is the stuff that super heroes are made of, uncommon effort from common men.
